E-Books

We are steadily increasing the collection of electronic books (ebooks) that are available for staff and students to view.Ebooks can be lcoated by using the Library Catalogue. The best way to search is to add "electronic book" to the Keywords search. For example, typing in Tourism "electronic book" produces these results.Ebooks can be accessed anywhere on campus, and you shouldn't have to enter a username or password. If you are using these resources at home, you should make sure that you get to the catalogue via the student portal.Any questions or comments, or suggestions for purchase, please contact one of the team.

LexisNexis Business and News

LexisNexis recently introduced a new search front page to their database. We had a look, and found it much more useful and intuitive. Now, it is a simple matter to restrict searches to, for example, Broadsheet newspapers in the UK.Or, to refine searches even further, you can just select an individual publication such as the Financial Times. Much more useful, and we have already seen students using it well. If you want to know anymore about it, drop us a line.To access LexisNexis Business and News, just go via LITSearch, and select Newspapers from the General Reference list.

We ran a series of drop in sessions this week for students studying International Business at postgraduate level. As we all know, our external examiners often refer to the lack of electronic resources used by the students, so these are excellent opportunities to introduce students at all levels to the wonders of LITSearch...

Student Visit

We had a visit on Tuesday from some students at Sheffield College who are studying on the Tourism and Event Management foundation course. We showed them some of the resources that they can access, gave them a tour of the library and warned them away from wikipedia as an academic resource. All in a day's work really :)The lecture seemed well received by the students, and we uploaded a copy to www.slideshare.net/mborg so that they could look at it later on.We also created a delicious page for them at http://del.icio.us/shulibrary with some links.
